Pomegranate Juice

Like a high-speed bullet train, summer is barreling towards us. Fortunately, there’s still plenty of time to make sure our physiques are prepared for its arrival.  For folks interested in slimmer waistlines, adding the super fruit benefits of pomegranate juice to your diet can amp up trim-down efforts.

Pomegranates or Chinese Apples are actually thick-skinned berries. The skin is inedible, but once you get beyond that exterior a wonderland of delicious juicy seeds called arils await.  Whether you consume the seeds whole and raw or processed into a juice, the whole-body health benefits are significant.

Considered an elixir of sorts by many cultures, pomegranate juice’s antioxidant-rich composition makes it one of the of body’s most vigilant protectors – your heart, blood vessels, and cells’ sergeant-at-arms. With more antioxidants than green tea, red wine, and cranberry juice, pomegranate juice is considered top contender in the healthy drink category. Throw in its metabolism boosting, appetite suppressing, and belly fat blasting properties and its competition starts to fade even more.

How does it reduce belly fat? Check out the research facts below:

  • It attacks triglycerides, the fat that enters the blood, increases heart disease risks, and stores itself in the body – most specifically as belly fat.
  • It lowers the amount of NEFA (non-esterified fatty acid) in the blood. NEFA has been linked to fat storage around the abs.

Folks with plant allergies should note that they may experience similar reactions to pomegranate juice. Check with your doctor before rolling out your pomegranate juice plan as it may interfere with certain medications.

Seed Removal Tip:

Place halved pomegranates in enough water to cover them. With the halve still submerged, gently pry the membranes apart. The seeds will fall to bottom of the container and the membranes and skin will float to the top. Collect the seeds by draining with a colander.
